Comparison

Formula Bot alternative — honest comparison with SheetBrain

Formula Bot is no longer a "formula helper" in any meaningful sense — it has grown into a full AI data analysis platform with dashboards, SQL generation, web scraping, and scheduled runs. SheetBrain is a focused Google Sheets™ add-on with a free deterministic auditor and AI formula help. Different products. Here is how to choose.

Quick verdict

Pick Formula Bot if…

  • You want a multi-product platform: dashboards, SQL queries, web scraping, scheduled flows.
  • Your work is heavy on bulk row processing and AI-driven data ingestion.
  • You need recurring automated runs (daily / weekly) on fresh data.
  • You are willing to pay $18–$29/mo for the broader surface area.

Pick SheetBrain if…

  • You want a free, unlimited, deterministic spreadsheet audit (no AI quota).
  • You want schema-aware repair after columns move or are renamed.
  • You want one focused sidebar: Generate / Explain / Debug / Check / Repair.
  • You want a flat $9/mo with all AI features, no API key, no per-token billing.

Where Formula Bot is genuinely better

It is a platform, not a single tool

Formula Bot's positioning has moved upmarket from "AI formula generator" to "AI data analysis platform". Their AI Data Analyzer builds interactive dashboards from raw data. Their SQL generator translates plain-English questions into SQL for database connections. Their web scraper extracts structured data from URLs. Their scheduled flows let you define a pipeline once and run it daily or weekly with fresh inputs. SheetBrain has none of these things and does not currently plan to.

Bulk row processing is their flagship

If your job is "categorize 50,000 rows of customer feedback" or "generate descriptions for 5,000 products", Formula Bot is built for that scale. SheetBrain's AI features are designed around per-cell or small-range operations. We are not pretending to compete on bulk; pick Formula Bot for high-volume row work.

Scheduled recurring runs are a real retention feature

Formula Bot can run a saved flow on a schedule with fresh data and email you the result. That kind of "set it and forget it" workflow is a feature SheetBrain currently lacks. If your need is automated weekly reporting, Formula Bot is the closer match.

A free tier exists for both

Formula Bot offers a free tier; SheetBrain offers 15 AI calls/mo plus an unlimited deterministic Sheet Check. Specific Formula Bot free-tier limits change over time — check formulabot.com/pricing directly rather than trusting any third-party comparison number.

Where SheetBrain is genuinely better

The free deterministic Sheet Check

This is SheetBrain's actual moat. Formula Bot has no equivalent. SheetBrain's Check tab runs Detector Set v0.4, a deterministic auditor with six detectors: broken_reference (cells displaying #REF! plus lookup formulas with column or row indexes outside the referenced range), visible_formula_error (formula cells returning common visible errors), mixed_text_number (mixed-type columns), duplicate_lookup_key (duplicate VLOOKUP keys), inconsistent_formula_pattern (formula pattern outliers), and missing_formula_pattern (missing copied formulas). No AI calls, no quota. If your sheets are decision-critical and you want a scan that cannot fail because the AI is having a bad day, this is the feature you want.

Schema Repair after column moves

When a column gets renamed or moved, your VLOOKUPs silently start computing the wrong thing. SheetBrain captures a schema snapshot when you use Generate or Debug, then on click of Repair surfaces every formula whose target shifted — with safe rewrites you preview and apply one-by-one. Repair is an AI-powered feature in the $9/mo Pro plan, separate from Check. Schema drift is the bug class manual auditing cannot catch; Formula Bot does not catch it either.

Root-cause Debug

"Why does this formula return the wrong value?" is a different question from "give me a formula." Debug reads the formula, the surrounding column types, and the data, and explains the underlying defect — often pointing at duplicate keys, mixed types, or off-by-one column indexes the user did not realize were the issue. Formula Bot's formula tools focus on generation, not diagnosis.

Lower entry price (and a different shape entirely)

Formula Bot's published Starter tier is $18/mo as of 2026-04 (250 messages, 2,500 AI Actions, 2 dashboards, 200MB upload). SheetBrain Pro is $9/mo. Both include AI formula features; SheetBrain additionally includes the deterministic Check, the AI Repair tab, and Debug. If your work is Sheets-focused and you do not need Formula Bot's analyzer / SQL / scraper / dashboard surface, the price gap is real. If you do need that surface, Formula Bot is the right tool. Verify Formula Bot's current tiers and limits directly — their pricing changes occasionally.

Pricing — how to compare

Formula Bot's tier names, prices, and per-user/per-workspace structure have changed multiple times across recent quarters, and different official surfaces (the main pricing page, marketing landings, in-product upgrade screens) sometimes show different tier ladders simultaneously. Rather than carry a number that may already be stale by the time you read this, the only honest comparison is: verify on Formula Bot's pricing page directly.

Paid tiersMultiple tiers exist (Starter / Max / Enterprise structure as of recent fetches). Check the live page for current prices and limits — pricing changes frequently.$9/mo Pro (1,000 AI calls, all features, no API key, no per-user pricing)
Honest caveat: if your job is large-scale data analysis with dashboards, SQL, and scraping, Formula Bot is the right tool and SheetBrain is not built for that. SheetBrain's value shows up when the work is Sheets-native — auditing, formula help, schema repair — and the data analyzer / SQL / scheduled-run layer is not what you need. Pick the one that matches your actual workflow.

Why someone might use both

Formula Bot for ingestion and dashboards (web scraping in, scheduled SQL flows, analyzer dashboards). SheetBrain for the structural integrity of the underlying Google Sheet (Check + Repair + Debug). Marketplace permissions for both are independent; they do not conflict.

Try the free deterministic Sheet Check

The Check tab is free, unlimited, and works in any Google Sheet you already have open. No commitment, no API key.
